Beta features

Some of Plank's newest capabilities are still being refined. They're switched off by default so your everyday work stays calm and predictable. When you want to try one, there's a separate switch for each.

Turning a beta feature on

Go to Settings → Preferences → Beta features. Each in-progress feature has its own switch — turn on just the ones you want. They take effect immediately, with nothing to reload. The switches are independent: turning one on doesn't turn on the others.

If a feature ever seems to be on here but missing in the workspace, the workspace is running with the settings it started with. Restart assistant, on this same Preferences page, starts a fresh assistant process and picks them up. One assistant serves all of your spaces, so it stops whatever it is doing in any of them; your files and chat history are untouched.

The switches are tied to your account, not the device you're using, so they follow you everywhere you sign in. Turn any one off the same way whenever you like, and that part of Plank goes back to its standard behavior.

These features are, by design, still rough and may change — that's what "beta" means here. Turning a switch on is how you tell Plank you're happy to try that feature as it evolves.

What you can turn on

• General agent & contexts — instead of always working inside one workspace, the assistant can work across your workspaces, and you can group related workspaces into contexts so it focuses on just that set. See Contexts.
• Answer style — choose how the assistant answers, right above the message box: Quick, Standard or Thorough. See Chats.
• Credentials — store and manage the API keys and secrets your agents use, under Settings → Credentials.
• Models — see which Plank-managed model backs your assistant, under Settings → Models. See Models.
• Integrations — connect MCP servers and external tools for your agents, under Settings → Integrations. See Integrations.

What changes when a feature is on

With "General agent & contexts" on:

• Where you land when you open Plank. With it off, opening the app drops you straight into your current workspace — your files and chat, just as before. With it on, you open onto the general agent instead: the sidebar lists every workspace's files (grouped per workspace), opening any file shows it in the viewer, and the assistant in the chat works across all of them.
• The workspace switcher. Off, it's a simple flat list of your workspaces. On, your workspaces are grouped under their contexts.
• Settings. The Contexts and General Agent sections appear under Settings → Personal only while this is on.

With "Answer style" on:

• A small button appears in the row of buttons under the message box in every chat, showing the current setting — Quick, Standard or Thorough — and opening a menu when tapped. New chats start on Standard, the balanced middle setting. See Chats.

With "Credentials", "Models" or "Integrations" on:

• The matching section appears under Settings (Credentials, Models, Integrations). While a switch is off, that section is hidden, and any link that would open it lands on General instead. (The Integrations sidebar section stays visible either way — it also lists your workspace scripts.)

Turn any switch back off and that feature's changes revert. Nothing you set up while it was on is deleted — it's simply tucked away until you turn the switch on again.
