Plank on your phone

Besides the web app, Plank is a native app for your phone and tablet, so you can pick up your work — and your assistant — wherever you are. Everything is the same workspace: the files, chats, and settings you see on your computer are the ones you see on your phone.

This page covers the parts that are unique to the phone.

The home-screen widget

Add a Plank widget to your home screen to jump straight in without opening the app first:

• Start a chat in one tap. The widget can open a fresh chat for a chosen workspace — either ready for you to type, or straight into voice so you can just talk. Voice messages are biased toward the names and terms you've recently been using in that workspace, so they come out right.
• Open a starred file. A Starred Files widget puts your pinned files one tap away.

Pick a workspace for the widget so it always lands you in the right place. It's the quickest way to capture a thought or kick off a task on the move.

Share to Plank

You don't have to be inside the app to give your assistant something to work with. From almost any other app — your files, photos, browser, or mail — use the system Share button and choose Share to Plank.

You can send in:

• Files — documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, and the like.
• Photos and images — straight from your camera roll.
• Links and text — a web page or a snippet you've selected.

Plank asks which workspace it belongs to, then drops it into that workspace's files (or hands it to a chat) so your assistant can pick it up. It's the fastest way to get something off another app and into your work. See also Your files and Chats.

Attaching photos and files in a chat

Inside a chat, the + (Attach file) button on your phone lets you bring something in for that request:

• Photo Library — choose photos or images from your camera roll.
• Files — pick documents from your phone's Files app.

Use this when you just want the assistant to look at something for the question at hand. For files that should live in your workspace, send them in with Share to Plank or upload them (see Your files).

Copying part of a message (iPhone)

On iPhone, touch and hold the text of a message right in the chat — yours, the assistant's, or a Plan — and the whole message is selected in place, with the selection handles on it. Drag the handles to cover just the number, line or paragraph you want (touch and hold a word to start a new selection), then tap the selection and choose Copy: exactly the selected text is copied (Select All in the same menu takes the whole message again). Tap the text to clear the selection, or tap another message, to go back. While a message is selected its links and files don't open, so clear the selection first; otherwise tapping them works as before, and touching and holding a link does not start a selection. On Android and on the web you select message text directly.

Opening, previewing & sharing files

On a phone, opening a document (a PDF, Word, Excel, or similar) shows a native Preview, and a Share button hands it to your phone's share sheet so you can send it on.
